Definitions
- Objective assessments of one’s current level of financial inputs, debts or resources; also calls it economic deprivation (@sinclair2016)
- Unable to afford social activities (@yates2007)
How it’s measured
Ad-hoc measures
- @sinclair2016 suggests different objective parameters, such as:
- Direct income (from job, from household)
- Adjusted income (demand-adjusted income, relative income rank)
- Financial obligations (mortgage, debts, expenses, proxies such as number of children or spousal employment status)
- @yates2007 uses data collected from HES, on deprivation in:
- ‘Week’s holiday away from home at least once a year’
- ‘Night out once a fortnight’
- ‘Special meal once a week’
- ‘New clothes’
- ‘Leisure or hobby activities’
- ‘Inviting family/friends for a meal once a month’
