We conducted a representative online survey regarding age, gender, and education status in Germany in September 2024 with a final sample of 1818 respondents. Respondents were recruited and paid by a research company that maintains an online access panel.2 To obtain a representative sample, invited participants had to first answer questions on their sociodemographic characteristics.

The dependent variable, FinancialConcernsi, contains the answer with respect to respondent i’s concerns about the current (or future) financial situation which ranges from “not at all concerned” (1) to “very concerned” (7). Our main variable of interest, InflationConcernsi, has three categories, whereas the category not at all concerned is the reference category.
